AT&T Bold 9700 First Look
Nov 19, 2009 Devices
So the AT&T Bold 9700 arrived this morning (a day earlier then FedEx said it would, but I’m not one to complain!) and I was immediately in love with the device. The box itself is the usual AT&T box, orange, pretty, complete. Upon opening the box, you’re greeted with the phone glaring at you with the usual stickers on it.The contents of the box include the head phones, holster, charger, and CD with the Blackberry User Tools (BBDM). Also included is the Quick Start manual no one looks at. I will admit that when I first opened the box, I was a little taken back by the size of the 9700. I got used to the larger feel of the 9000, and the 9700 is a deal smaller in comparison. The back battery door slides off as opposed to the latching door on the 9000 and it has the same leathery patch on it that the 9000 has.
Boot time of the new phone was surprisingly fast, I’m sure that will slow a bit once I load some programs and my email in to the device, but for the moment, this is one of the quickest devices I’ve used. The Memory listed shows that there is 127mb of free space for apps, and 1.8gb of storage available. Its running OS 5.0.0.296 (Platform 5.1.0.83).
My initial observations of the 9700 are good, it looks and feels like a nicely made device. It does seem that it will take some time to get used to the trackpad as opposed to the ball, but the nice thing about the pad is that it won’t get stuck like the ball does (we hope). I’ll load the phone up with devices and use it a bit over the weekend and I’ll post a complete review with screenshots early next week.
More images after the jump!
