Speek your mind with Speek.com!
Feb 24, 2010 Technology
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Speek. All opinions are 100% mine.
Every once in a while I come across something I think would benefit our readers. Today happens to be that once in a while. New to the conference call game is Speek.com a site that does what it says. It makes calls.
Quite simply, Speek is a FREE Web-based teleconferencing system that dials out to cell phones, landlines, and voice-over-Internet applications like Skype and GoogleTalk. With Speek, your call will start on time, every time.
If the free test is any indicator, it works pretty well. You put in the your number and the number/contact info of the people you want to call, and viola, it calls them. You can contact them via phone (cell, office, home) gtalk (google talk), or skype as well as a number of other methods.
From the looks you can also schedule a call as well which is a big plus for those who need scheduled calls. I haven’t played around with all the features, and Gruntled never responded to the invite I sent to his GoogleTalk account, so I can’t comment on how that works just yet, but if you can call from cell to gtalk or skype through this for the cost of a phone call, its pretty cool.
The other nice thing is that Speek.com is looking for feedback so they want to invite you to register for private beta. Its simple. Fill out the form, import your contacts and you’re off and running on the way to conference calls. Easy Peasy.
If you do try it out, let us know what you think and if you find yourself using it more often.

Blackberry DM for Mac LEAKED!
Sep 3, 2009 Apps
Those of us (un)fortunate enough to be on a Mac and using one of the world’s best smartphones have been unable to use the desktop manager from Rim due to its “windows only” status. Until now. A beta of the DM for Mac has been leaked to the fringes of the web and has made its way to several of the larger download sites.
So far, general opinion is that this totally rocks and it works good, but we want to issue a word of caution: Remember Its A BETA product still and may act as such. Don’t blame us or RIM if you screw up your mac or Blackberry.

Leaked: 5.0.0.190 for Bold and 8900 w/ threaded SMS; 5.0.0.154 for Storm 9530; OS 5.0.0.140 for Tour!
Aug 26, 2009 Firmware
Wow. What a week so far. First, AT&T releases an OFFICIAL release with Visual Voicemail in it (now us Bold users can rebuff the iPhone Phans) and now, FOUR hot OS leaks for the 9000, 8900, 9630, and 9530. How about that?
The release for the Bold and Curve feature threaded SMS in it, which until now was only possible with a 3rd party app. This is a huge step forward for Blackberry users and one which many people have been clamoring for for a while. There are some other features included as well as a couple that have been dropped (no tabbed browsing at the moment). If you try it, please let us know what you think.
- BlackBerry Storm – Download OS 5.0.0.154, Discussion & Findings Thread

- BlackBerry Curve 8900 – Download OS 5.0.0.190

5.0.0.100 for the 8900 and 9000 in teh wild!
Few things make us happier in life then spreading the word about beta leaks in the wild. Take for example, this little gem called 5.0.0.100 and the fact that its now out for the 8900 and 9000. Please note, these releases are extreamly beta and many (if not all) of your apps MAY NOT WORK on this build (but that may soon change!)

Going Cuckoo!
Jan 14, 2009 Apps
Every so often there comes an app that at first glance you scratch your head and wonder, “do I really need that”? But after a while you can’t imagine living with out it (take twitter or facebook. Anyone with an account for either of them would stare at you crazy like if you threatened to take it away). EveryHour by BerryBlow is such an app.
EveryHour is an alarm of sorts. Through the settings you can set the program to alert you on the hour during the time specified or, if set correctly, only once a day. Yes. Blackberry Devices (indeed, most phones these days) already come with an alarm of sorts. However, the alarm is often limited to one time a day so for multiple alarm settings you would have to reset it. EveryHour can be used as a secondary alarm. Not a bad tool to have on hand.
Some features of EveryHour:
- Every hour sound notifications
- Customize active period (from and to intervals)
- Single and multi sound notification type
- Customize sounds for notifications (sigle sound, clock chime, cuckoo)
- Set volume
- Set active on weekend option
EveryHour is a beta product and they developers are constantly seeking input in to how to make the app better. You can grab this product for free from BerryBlow or OTA
