Now, I knew that they had spent some serious dough this year to upgrade their network, lets hope thats the case and that users across the nation received a similar email.
AT&T Bold 9700 First Look
Nov 19, 2009 Devices
So the AT&T Bold 9700 arrived this morning (a day earlier then FedEx said it would, but I’m not one to complain!) and I was immediately in love with the device. The box itself is the usual AT&T box, orange, pretty, complete. Upon opening the box, you’re greeted with the phone glaring at you with the usual stickers on it.The contents of the box include the head phones, holster, charger, and CD with the Blackberry User Tools (BBDM). Also included is the Quick Start manual no one looks at. I will admit that when I first opened the box, I was a little taken back by the size of the 9700. I got used to the larger feel of the 9000, and the 9700 is a deal smaller in comparison. The back battery door slides off as opposed to the latching door on the 9000 and it has the same leathery patch on it that the 9000 has.
Boot time of the new phone was surprisingly fast, I’m sure that will slow a bit once I load some programs and my email in to the device, but for the moment, this is one of the quickest devices I’ve used. The Memory listed shows that there is 127mb of free space for apps, and 1.8gb of storage available. Its running OS 5.0.0.296 (Platform 5.1.0.83).
My initial observations of the 9700 are good, it looks and feels like a nicely made device. It does seem that it will take some time to get used to the trackpad as opposed to the ball, but the nice thing about the pad is that it won’t get stuck like the ball does (we hope). I’ll load the phone up with devices and use it a bit over the weekend and I’ll post a complete review with screenshots early next week.
More images after the jump!

AT&T to Introduce Blackberry® Bold™ 9700 SmartPhone, Features New Trackpad for Easy Navigation
Dallas, Texas, October 21, 2009
AT&T*, the choice for twice as many smartphone customers than any other carrier and the first U.S. carrier to offer BlackBerry® service, announced today that the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700 smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM; TSX:RIM) will be available for AT&T consumer and business customers in the coming weeks. The new BlackBerry Bold 9700 builds on the success of the original Bold model, introduced nearly one year ago, also on AT&T’s nation’s fastest 3G network. AT&T is the only U.S. carrier to offer the original BlackBerry Bold and will be among the first to offer the new BlackBerry Bold 9700. Customers can learn more about the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 by visiting www.att.com/BlackBerryBold9700.
The device is a beautiful combination of black and chrome accents that house a brilliant high-resolution display in a compact and lightweight package. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 features a 624 MHz processor with 256 MB of Flash memory, 3.2 megapixel camera and A-GPS to provide a faster location fix in support of AT&T Navigator with real-time traffic data. The new BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone also features an innovative touch-sensitive trackpad instead of the previous trackball for quick and easy access to email, messages, apps and more. It will also come preloaded with AT&T Visual Voicemail at no extra cost.

Its Official! AT&T releases 4.6.0.217 for the BOLD!
May 13, 2009 Firmware
Apparently, AT&T has decided to show some love to the bold Owners out there. Only 6 months after the device launched, they’ve released an updated OS. You can grab the new ‘official’ firmware here (Make sure to use IE), but if I were you, I’d find .266 and run with that release instead.
There really isn’t anything new to add to this build (especially if you’ve been using some of the more recent betas), VVM is not working or available yet, so in our book, its a wash.
