Add Hebrew To your Phone OTA!
The Crew from over at BerryReview has posted a really good FAQ with links on how to add Hebrew to your phone. From BR:
Smartmouth let me know that created a download page where you can easily find the right files to install Hebrew fonts on your device. The best part is that you do not need to reinstall your OS to get Hebrew fonts since this installs like an application. Smartmouth set it up that you can even add some of the read only fonts OTA but if you want to be able to write with the fonts you will need to do this using the desktop install files on the same page.
You can grab hit the Site OTA on your device and grab the install that’s right for you.
Currently, this method supports:
- OTA Hebrew Read Only & Menus:
o BlackBerry Storm, 83XX Curve Series, 88XX Series, 82XX Pearl Flip Series, Bold 90XX Series, & 7290 - Desktop Manager Hebrew Read & Write support:
o BlackBerry 8900 Curve, 83XX Curve Series, 88XX Series, 82XX Pearl Flip Series, Bold 90XX Series
But they provide an email link for you to hit if you don’t see yours supported.

Two free Apps for the STORM!
Feb 23, 2009 Apps
I don’t focus a lot of attention on the storm as its not currently a device I own (unless someone wants to change that for me!), however, I came across these two FREE apps for the storm today and I thought I’d share. This first one is a fun little app that turns your berry in to an etch-a-sketch. StormSketch is as simple as it sounds. It turns your storm in to a whiteboard of sorts. This is going to be AWESOME for you brainstormers who like to doodle while thinking or even for those who need something to keep them busy while waiting for the train. If you want more info check out the Thread over at crackberry.
Secondly, this app makes me jealous. I’d love for Cisco to come out with a version of this for the 8900 and the 9000, but I doubt they will. Global Internet Speed Test (GIST) is something Cisco has unleashed for the iPhone and the storm. You can test your speed over wifi and the network. The cool thing is that the size of the file downloaded varies based on the network connection so the test seems the same no matter what. It’s a dandy piece of code and one that *should* be ported to the Bold and other devices. From Cisco:
The test is performed by downloading a known quantity of data from a single web server. The size of the data is different for the different types of network connections, so that the test will take roughly the same amount of time from the user’s perspective. For a cellular network test, 256KB are downloaded. For wireless, 512 KB are downloaded. A single download is performed, timed in milliseconds, and results are reported in terms of 1000 bits per second (kbps). Test results might be impacted by network routing, traffic, congestion and the responsiveness of our server. Results might also vary by the user’s geographical location.
If you’re on a storm, let us know how it works. Please?

AppleBerry Theme for the Storm
Feb 18, 2009 Themes
We’ve featured themes for the Bold and for any curve not in the 8900 family but we haven’t had one for the storm. Until now. Plazmic’s CDK for the 4.7 OS has been released (a little over a week ago) and the themes for the storm have been rolling in. One theme above them all has been causing a lot of commotion on the forums.
AppleBerry is apparently the coolest thing since the iPhone and it has some amazing features. hastings has put together a nice mac inspired theme that features the best of everything. If you’re rocking the storm, check it out and let us know what you think. ok?

Hack Your BlackBerry = Wireless Modem
Feb 13, 2009 Hack

Got a BlackBerry or BlackBerry Pearl? Use it to connect to the Internet from anywhere you get a wireless signal – even overseas. This should enable reporters on the road to blog or file copy to editors while they’re on location. And it’s the primary way that I’m online when traveling.
- Download the script here. Right click (control click on a Mc) and Choose ‘Save As’.
- Copy the script into /Library/Modem Scripts.
- If you’ve already paired your Pearl with your Mac, open Bluetooth Preferences. Select your Pearl from the list of devices and press ‘Configure…’. (If you haven’t, choose ‘Set up Bluetooth Device’ – the following dialogs will be shown after you’ve paired your phone with your Mac.)
- Make sure ‘Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection’ is checked. Also, make sure ‘Use a direct, higher speed connection’ is selected. Click Continue.
- In the Modem Script pulldown on the following screen, Select ‘BlackBerry 8100’. Use the following settings for the other fields, then click Continue:
* Username, Password: leave blank
* GPRS CID: *99***1# - Open the Internet Connect application. Select the Bluetooth icon at the top. Under Phone Number, put your APN (for T-Mobile and the BlackBerry Unlimited plan, I use wap.voicestream.com, for Cingular it’s “wap.cingular”). Type a username and password (I use guest/guest, for Cingular you’ll use “WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM” as the username and “CINGULAR1” as the password) in the appropriate fields.
Special thanks to Ross Barkman, Tim Hatch and then Grant Goodale for the hacks!!!
